Welcome to the Gainsborough Community Diary, provided by The Gainsborough Stakeholder Network and supported by The Lincolnshire Co-operative Society. Access the Diary and click on the day or month to see what events are happening. If you would like to add an event to the diary, please contact us. Gainsborough Stakeholders Network was formed to bring together people active in the town's communities, to help them support each other and to campaign for a stronger and safer Gainsborough. It was born out of the Eye Of Newt group who were running a team of community development workers for nearly two years and who have now come together with other people identified by the Gainsborough Regained masterplanning consultants as representative of the community in the town. Its development workers have supported The Riverside Festival Committee, local residents groups, Gainsborough Adventure Playground, the Heritage Association, Credit Union, young people's groups, Furniture Resource Centre, arts projects, Disability Network and many others. "What has emerged from our work is an apparent desire and need for individual groups to work more closely with each other, sharing resources and experiences and supporting each other's activities. The Riverside Festival has become a celebration of all that is good in Gainsborough and the Network is one way of trying to spread that goodwill throughout the year." Community Development Workers, Karen Parr and Anne Cater are both local people and employed by LCDP, a Lincoln based community development charity, but report to the Network members. The Network seeks to give opportunities for its members to share information and support each other with a common goal of improving the quality of life in the town. It tries to attract new resources for both the network and its members through joint bidding and integration of services. It works with other established community groups to add value to what they do. There are almost 40 current members and anyone with an interest or a determination for Gainsborough to prosper is welcome to join. Gareth Powell is the Network Chairman. "Membership of the Network is open to all and free of charge. It is action focussed and its members hope that there will be many successful collaborations over coming years. But it also expects to be an important voice for the community in communicating the ambitions and expectations of the people of the town in strategic policy development. West Lindsey District Council, when masterplanning, recognised that there is a need for such a voice and are supporting the Network, together with LCDP and the Lincolnshire Co-operative." |
